OUTREACH

With the quote, “Books are treasures that should be shared.” in mind, Collegiate set off to share the joy of reading. The Academic Committee, under the leadership of Nicole Lister, collected children's books for the children at Mosaic since the beginning of term. On Friday, 4 August, a few girls visited Mosaic to hand over the books and read to the children. Thank you, Mrs Lotz, for accompanying the learners.

INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATIVES

Emma Jack, Likhanye JamJam, Betty Nicol and Jemma van der Mescht are attending the the 2023 World Gymnaestrada in Amsterdam. It is the 17th anniversary of the World Gymnaestrada and this international event has 18 000 gymnasts from over 60 countries attending. The learners report that it is a privilege and a wonderful experience. They wrote, "With a truly authentic South African themed performance, we literally got the crowd on their feet and left our leopard print mark on the world."

WINTER SPORT INTER HOUSE

The scene at the Inter-House Winter Sports Day with our learners in supporter shirts to identify with their respective Houses was a reminder that sunshine feeds happiness. The food trucks created a festive feel with the colourful ice desserts, pizza, brownies, doughnuts, bagels and other treats on sale. The Collegiate learners managed stalls while others were making a strong case for loving soccer.

DEBATING

The Collegiate Team of Junior Debaters were confident with the motion at the end of July , "THBT social media has made traditional media obsolete" against an opposing Westering. Although the topic was relevant to our contemporary times, it proved a challenge to both sides defending the argument with a battle of bards ensuing. The debaters were faced with a determined Westering whose passion, in the end, was subdued when the eloquently spoken Collegiate learners gained the upper hand to be declared the victors. The team was then invited to debate at the regional finals where the best teams battled it out, and our learners fared will. Thank you, Mrs Weideman and Mrs Winchester, for accompanying the team to Makanda.

TENNIS

Congratulations to Tennis Captain Maryke Du Raan on her 100 caps for the First Team! The team secured this milestone with a victory. Maryke is an asset to the team and we have been fortunate to have her as the Tennis captain this year.

SIMAMELE

The topic for the final Simamele forum of 2023 was “How leadership influences you”. Thank you to Pétra Coltman and her team for driving this Forum for the learners.

MUSICAL MOMENTS

Tickets are on sale at the Bursar’s Office for the Music Department’s annual Musical Moments concert, featuring the Vocal Ensemble, String Ensemble, Choir and Concert Band. Hope to see you there!
