String Ensemble
On Sunday afternoon the Collegiate Girls’ High School String Ensemble participated at the annual Grey High School Strings festival alongside the ensembles of Grey Junior, Grey High, Pearson High, Summerwood Primary, Curro Westbrook, St George’s Prep and Muzukids Gqeberha. The highlight of the festival was the participation in two mass items. The orchestra featured the musicians and conductors of all the ensembles and a 360˚ video recording was made of the event. Well done to all our dedicated String players!
NMU National Science Week
Some of our Grade Eleven learners had a taste of university life during their visit to Nelson Mandela University's National Science Week.
DERBY: Oranje (Eunice)
With Eunice traveling to Gqeberha for their annual Derby in Gqeberha which coincides with Collegiate’s against Oranje Meisieskool, we played some matches against Eunice and some against Oranje Meisieskool. It was an action packed weekend of sport as Collegiate played host to Eunice High School and Oranje Meisieskool with mixed results for Collegiate whose First Team Hockey played well to win against Eunice but not could not break through the defence strategy of Oranje’s team.
It was an eventful weekend of netball when Collegiate played two derbies against schools from Bloemfontein.

MUSICAL 2024
With preparations already underway for the 150th Jubilee celebrations next year, a call for male actors was recently posted on our social media. The production of “Cinderella, Enchanted Version” is bound to be a transformative experience as mice become horses, pumpkins into transportation and who does not love happy endings of which we are assured by fairy-tales. Interested male actors may contact Mrs Hemingway:liskeh@cghs.co.za
DEBATING
The Collegiate Team of Debaters were confident with the motion, "THBT social media has made traditional media obsolete" against an opposing Westering. Although the topic was relevant to our contemporary times, it proved a challenge to both sides defending the argument with a battle of bards ensuing. The debaters were faced with a determined Westering whose passion, in the end, was subdued when the eloquently spoken Collegiate learners gained the upper hand to be declared the victors.
To Mrs Weideman and Mrs Winchester, we express our gratitude for their efforts, love and investment in the future which starts everyday by taking a topic for discussion and unpacking it.
CHESS
The second team played in the second league match of the term. They beat their opponents, Cillie High with a score of 6-1. Friday also saw the Top 4 in their match against Oranje Meisieskool, after a nail-biting round on Board 1, Collegiate lost 2, won 1 and drew 1.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Collegiate hosted the interschool cross country league. It was one of the toughest leagues as it was a proper cross-country course with hills, sand and twists and turns, but it was definitely a favourite league. We are so proud of all the girls who competed. A special mention must be made of Jenna Coetzee coming first, Chloe Watson coming second and Mia-Cara Hart coming first in her age group. A shout out must be given to the First – and Second Team Netball who also took part in the race. Thank you to First Aid for your willingness to serve others in the role you do. We are grateful to Mr Marriott without whose planning and organisational efforts, the Cross-Country event would not have been possible.
