Congratulations, Mathletes

The results of the top achievers in AdMaths 2023 were announced this week. This is in preparation for the Further Studies Mathematics examination in Grade Twelve (an eighth subject) through AdMaths SA. Each year, AdMaths certificates are received by the top students (90% and above) for their exceptional efforts. The average was calculated using their June and October 2023 examination results.

These learners are Maria Freercks (Grade 10 2023); Jennifer Friskin (Grade 10 2023), who placed fourth overall, and Clarice Pieterse (Grade 9 2023), who placed second overall.

We are proud of our maths whizzes for multiplying their success exponentially in these examinations—your results are the perfect addition to our school's achievements!

Our Grade 11 learners visited the Working World Exhibition. Chad Durrheim came to talk to the Grade 10s about Biokinetics and gave more information regarding this exciting profession. JUBILEE ROAST

Many great ideas start with a cup of good coffee. Sourced responsibly by local roastery, Masterton’s, the Jubilee Roast promises to satisfy any connoisseur’s taste buds. A coffee blend specially crafted to celebrate Collegiate’s 150th Jubilee, it can be purchased through the Bursar’s Office.

ATHLETICS

Many of our athletes qualified for PEHS and participated on Friday. Bronwyn Shone, Khazimla Nogalawe and Jade Grobler participated in finals on Saturday. Athletics Meets give the athletes an opportunity to practice discipline and to demonstrate their skills. Milla Delport won gold at the EPA Championships.

SWIMMING

The Collegiate athletes participated in Metro Champs where they achieved excellent results. Metro Champs allows athletes to showcase their athletic abilities and to develop traits such as character, discipline, and persistence that will benefit them in other areas of their lives. Well done to all the athletes. We extend our appreciation to Mrs Grobbelaar and all the staff who assisted the athletes. Your support is highly appreciated.

WATER POLO

The Water Polo First Team travelled to Johannesburg to play in the annual Old Petrian’s Tournament. Skillful Water Polo was played while many memories were made. The results from the tournament:

CRICKET

Cricket at Collegiate is going from strength to strength. The first team, after a very successful tour to East London, beat Framesby by 7 runs, with Madison Venter taking 3 wickets for a total of 12 runs. Collegiate won their match against Kwazakele by 151 runs, with Sithenkosi Mbangutha scoring 62 unbeaten runs, and Madison Venter taking 3 wickets. The Second Team recorded a good win against Alex, winning by 9 wickets.

INTERACT

The members of Interact enjoyed the afternoon at Algoa Council Old Age Home playing Bingo with the residents. We would like to express our gratitude for the hospitality we received while sharing expertise. Clearly, the residents are excellent mentors as the Collegiate learners won many bingo prizes.

MUSICAL

"Why would a fellow want a girl like her?" What 'Cinderella' story would be complete without her two arch rivals, the dreaded stepsisters? Omhle Manona (Grade 10) as Grace, the anything-but-graceful sister, and Camryn Robinson (Grade 11) as Joy, the sullen stepsister, will have you in stitches as the dim-witted duo.

In celebration of 150 years of excellence, Collegiate Girls’ High School - by arrangement with DALRO (Pty) Ltd. - is proud to present Roger and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” (Enchanted Edition), directed by Mrs Liske Hemingway. The show will run from 13-16 March at the Savoy Theatre in Perridgevale, Gqeberha. Tickets are R150 and can be purchased via the Bursar’s Office from Monday, 12 February. For ticket enquiries please email: bronwynb@cghs.co.za.
