ACADEMIC

The Premier of the Eastern Cape, Oscar Mabuyane, visited Soqhayisa Senior Secondary School in Motherwell on Friday to congratulate the three Top Performing Schools in the Eastern Cape of which Collegiate Girls’ High School is one. It was a great honour for our Principal, Mrs Erasmus, to be there on behalf of the school and accept the Premier’s best wishes. Premier Mabuyane hopes to visit Collegiate in our 150th year.

PRINCIPAL’S COCKTAIL EVENING

The Collegiate Principals' Cocktail Evening was hosted on 1 February in the Stevenson Hall. Guests, Department of Education Officials, past teachers, SGB members and friends of the Junior School and High SKhool gathered to formally celebrate the past, present and future of the Collegiate Schools. The event, hosted by Mrs van Rooyen and Mrs Erasmus, was one of laughter and celebration.

MATRIC DANCE

The Matric Dance hosted in the Collegiate Stevenson Hall for the Class of 2024 unfolded on Saturday, 3 February 2024, as a major milestone in their school journey which draws to a close for the new chapter in their lives to start. The balmy weather created the ideal ambience for the event as they arrived to a fanfare of people lining the street before each learner and partner were greeted by the Principal, Mrs Erasmus, with Collegiate decorum.

In their dazzling formal wear, each learner radiated beauty and elegance, turning the event into a showcase of style and sophistication. The learners and their partners conducted themselves with grace and poise, showcasing not only their outward elegance but also their inner maturity and character.

The delectable cuisine was prepared for a queen’s banquet, amidst the beautifully decorated interior of the Stevenson Hall which holds its grandeur of tradition as testament to the school’s legacy. Those in attendance were treated to a feast for the senses by the caterers and planners working tirelessly behind the scenes.

We extend our gratitude to Mrs. Lotz and Mrs. Vlok for their unwavering dedication to orchestrating a memorable evening. Appreciation is expressed to Mrs. Erasmus for graciously hosting the event. As is tradition at Collegiate, the Grade 11 learners served on the planning committee. Their work ethic contributed to the success of the evening which is a night the Class of 2024 will always remember fondly.

RCL ELECTIONS

Collegiate learners voted for their Representative Council of Learners comprised of one learner per register class from Grade Eight to Grade Twelve. These twenty-five young leaders will be the bridge between their peers and the school staff, four of whom will be elected this Friday to join the school governing body. These four learners’ names will be announced to the school on Monday 12 February.

Congratulations on your achievement! Your peers have entrusted you with a valuable position and responsibility and we know that you will make them proud.

JUBILEE ROAST

Many great ideas start with a cup of good coffee. Sourced responsibly by local roastery, Masterton’s, the Jubilee Roast promises to satisfy any connoisseur’s taste buds. A coffee blend specially crafted to celebrate Collegiate’s 150th Jubilee, it can be purchased through the Bursar’s Office.

WATER POLO

We are excited to share with you some important news and updates about our annual Pearson High School Derby Day, the Jason Murray Tournament in East London and the Oakhill Chukka festival in Knysna. All of our Waterpolo teams are commended for their commitment and for the noticeable teamwork and determination showed in the pool. Their efforts are truly making a difference for Collegiate.

The results of the Jason Murray tournament were impressive as this was the girls’ first tournament experience. The team played a total of 7 games, winning 4 and losing 3 placing them 5th overall. This was an amazing outcome as there was some tough opposition.

The Oakhill Chukka Festival was a unique experience for our Second Team pitting it against other Second Teams but also First Teams. Throughout the festival, the team’s strengthening bond contributed to the improved skills during matches. The girls played 7 games, won 5 and lost 2.

Our annual Pearson High School Derby was hosted by Collegiate this year. The standard was high due to Collegiate having a clean sweep last year from U/14C all the way to the First Team winning 6-3.

Our gratitude is extended to all the staff and coaches whose continued support of Collegiate Waterpolo we value. We look forward to the rest of the season in and out of the pool.
