Our coaches were given the opportunity to trial and test the 1st team, 2nd team, u17A team and u16A team players’ abilities at the Despatch Sports Festival.

The U16A hockey team participated in the Bloemhof Fairtree u16 Girls Hockey Festival in Stellenbosch. In Pool A, Collegiate won 6, drew 2 and lost 1 to end 2nd the Pool A. We then played Rhenish who were 2nd in Pool B to a 0-0 draw to tie 3rd place. The short format games made for some exciting hockey with Collegiate scoring 17 goals and only conceding 3.

The U14A team were unbeaten at the Alex Festival, with four great wins! We are super proud of our Collegiate players and thrilled at their fabulous start to the 2025 season.

Our Collegiate 2nd and 3rd Hockey teams participated in the inaugural Framesby Festival. Our 2nd team won Gold whilst our 3rd team won Bronze. Khazimla Nogalawe received an award for runner-up player of the tournament.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HAPPINESS
20 March @ our happy place! International Day of Happiness was celebrated with joy. Even the birds in our trees were happy.

We would like to congratulate Grade 8 learner Abbygail de Lange (percussion) for being selected for the Eastern Cape Junior Wind Orchestra. We would like to congratulate Grade 8 learner Mishall Wesley for being selected for the Eastern Cape Junior String Orchestra.
ROMEO AND JULIET
The cast of "Romeo and Juliet" delivered the performance of their lives on our school stage. The dynamic staging, choreography and acting were supported by the school's skilled technical team, TECRU.

We had our 1st Netball Team's touring squad capping ceremony before heading off to the Paarl Girls' High Tournament.
CHOIR
The Eastern Cape Youth Choir representatives from Collegiate attended the Mzanzi Conductors’ Choir Convention with Mrs Agenbag, conductor of the choir, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
SIMAMELE
Our first Simamele session for the year discussed our identities. Who are we in the different facets of our lives? How do we see our selves? How do others see us? What shapes our identity? This insightful discussion and self reflection session will hopefully broaden our understanding of ourselves and others.
DEBATING
On Thursday 13 March, the Collegiate first Debating team (Caitlin van Heerden, Nonhle Goliath and Dion Duri) won the quarter final debate against Westering to go through to the league semi-final. The motion was TH prefers that social welfare come in the form of actual cash rather than specialised services (food kitchens, free clinics, homeless shelters, school fee reduction etc.), which Collegiate proposed. Nonhle Goliath was awarded best speaker. Their teacher bought them each an ice-cream! At the semi-final, the team competed in a tough debate around activism versus legal options in bringing about change. The team defeated their opponents! Congratulations girls and best of luck for the final.
LIFE ORIENTATION
Old Girl of 2008 and lecturer at NMU, Dr Vera Nketiah (nee Afriyie), the first PhD graduate in Dietetics at NMU, came to her Alma Mater and brought with her 2 final year Dietetics students and a second year Bcom Hospitality Management student. They addressed the Grade Tens about healthy eating and nutrition and shared what studying Dietetics and Hospitality management involve. All three students are also Old Girls of the College! How special it was to welcome them.
QUIZ
Collegiate’s Quiz Club hosted the Interschools Quiz League. As hosts, they did not participate in Round One but in Round Two, they tied with two other schools for second place.
On Monday, 10 March, the Collegiate Quiz Club hosted a Music Trivia. Learners were quizzed on memorable songs from previous decades and the latest hits, hosted by the Quiz chairperson Mikaela Caliste. For those who participated, it served as an opportunity to have fun with friends and compete in friendly competition against other Collegiate girls. Congratulations to the winning team.
SOUTH AFRICAN SOCIETY OF MUSIC TEACHERS (SASMT) NATIONAL CONFERENCE
We are very proud of our C of Saxes ensemble who performed two pieces at the opening concert of the South African Society of Music Teachers (SASMT) National Conference. They performed one of these pieces for the school at our Monday morning Assembly.

MOUNTAIN BIKE LEAGUE
Collegiate is very proud of Madison Law, who participated at the first school Mountain Bike league and won the Ladies Junior u18 event.
MUSIC DEPARTMENT
The Music department started the year off with the annual Concert Band, Choir and Vocal ensemble auditions. Great talent was discovered and we are excited to see the manner in which the new members of these groups have settled in and the difference they have made already. Preparations for the year’s performances in the form of workshops and rehearsals are in full swing. The music groups made a very good impression during the Open day presentation and did not disappoint. An exciting atmosphere and entertaining vibe was experienced by the Grade 7 learners and parents.
The Vocal ensemble represented our school at the Harvest Harmony Festival and did us proud.
Mrs Mey and Mrs Hemingway have presented talks at the National conference of the South African Society of Music Teachers, hosted by the Eastern Cape branch. Ms van Vledder was elected as one of a few music teachers in the city to teach and guide the saxophonists at the annual Eastern Cape Junior Woodwind Orchestra.
E-SPORTS
The Fortnite team placed 11th in their league match at the start of March. Congratulations to the team and best wishes for the weekly league competitions. The team is ably led by Isabelle Newman.

CONCERT BAND
The Concert Band had a Saturday camp filled with lots of fun, laughter and hard work. The day started at 8AM with a rehearsal, followed by fun activities involving the Grade 8s as a way to welcome them into the band. In the afternoon they split up into small sectionals for a more focused practice session. After all the hard work, they had a talent show where the girls showed off their unknown talents including ballet dancing, harmonica playing and funny skits. They ended off with a parents’ show case at 7PM to show their parents what they had been working on.
VOCAL ENSEMBLE
Collegiate Voice students Katherine Wilson, Cwenga Williams, and Aisha Mxokozeli performed alongside Voice teacher, Mrs Hemingway in “Soirée Musicale” at the esteemed Voice lecturer, Mr Lionel van Zyl's residence on Saturday 1 March. The singers wowed the audience and performed alongside many of Gqeberha's most acclaimed professionals.
On 17 March, the Vocal Ensemble performed at the Harvest Harmony festival held at Harvest Christian School. It was wonderful to make music with some of Gqeberha's finest schools and ensembles including Harvest Christian School, St Dominic's Priory, Theodore Herzl, Summerwood Primary, and the Eastern Cape Junior Children's Choir. Our performers wowed the audience and had them clapping along as always. The group was conducted by Mrs Hemingway and accompanied by Ms Potgieter. Well done to all our talented singers.

TRIBUTE TO OLD GIRL NINA HAMPTON (NÉE BOK)
It is with nostalgia and gratitude that we share the new addition to our Resource Centre of a bookcase. The beautiful new bookshelf is a tribute to Old Girl Nina Hampton (née Bok) of the Class of 2000 from her parents in her memory. Her legacy lives on.
EASTERN PROVINCE AQUATICS TEAM
Congratulations to Jenna Coetzee, Morgan Gous, Sienna Gous and Jemmah Roman who have been selected for the Eastern Province Aquatics Team for the upcoming South African Senior Nationals which will be held from 09 April - 13 April 2025 in Gqeberha.
All 4 swimmers had to swim Senior Open qualifying times in order to be selected.
